Creating Cohesive High Performance Teams & Organisations

Positive Dynamics working with Cardiff School of Healthcare Sciences

“Creating cohesive high performing teams”

  • The Cardiff School of Healthcare Sciences was emerging from a period of substantial organisational change resulting from consolidation of University Schools into Colleges and the creation a new School from the former Schools of Nursing & Midwifery and Healthcare Studies
  • The Professional Services team was ‘forming’ with managers from both previous Schools, in addition to two managers who joined the team from other parts of the University. The School Manager needed to rapidly get the team up to speed to provide essential support services and deliver an integrated service for the new School
  • A clear cultural and leadership framework had been set out by the Dean and Head of School of Healthcare Sciences, against the backdrop of the University’s vision to be amongst the top 20 Universities in the UK, and the top 100 in the world, by 2017
  • Develop the individual and collective capability of the Leadership team to deliver high performance
  • Help people understand their roles within the new structure
  • Embed philosophies of line management in the way leaders worked with their teams
  • Quickly overcome any cultural or management issues resulting from the lengthy change process
  • Establish consistent and effective management practice across the department; to implement objective-setting, performance reviews, training plans, and performance management; Facilitate a culture of trust, development, and growth
  • Initial consultation with the Dean & Head of School and School Manager to understand the senior team’s challenges & priorities and establish the most effective programme of development support
  • Dedicated 1:1 coaching support for the School Manager and each member of the leadership team
  • Facilitated team development days to create time to step away from their operational day-to-day responsibilities and think about their leadership presence and strategic priorities
  • Interventions were driven by the team / individual needs creating opportunities to focus on: vision, culture, values, high performing teams, leading through change
  • The development programme strengthened team trust, self-awareness and collaboration and continue to build capability to provide consistent and effective management practice across the department
Positive Dynamics have provided excellent coaching and support to our Leadership team during the formation of a new School. Their individual coaching style is developmental and was tailored to our situation, and the group sessions they facilitated had real and immediate impact. We have made substantial progress and built some much needed resilience during the past year with their help

Anne had a great gift of being able to offer very simple but effective practical tools for dealing with the day to day tactical challenges, whilst inspiring some big shifts in my outlook and personal style to help me really develop on my leadership journey. Without doubt, while I was seeing Anne I became a better leader for my direct reports, far more effective at influencing my peers and I believe my organisation got a really good return on its investment in our coaching relationship’
